We are SO CLOSE to having light sabers.
No, seriously, listen to this. This UV Sanitzer? It kills bacteria. It's a light. Did that resonate with you? Either way, I'll reiterate: this is a light that kills things. Ever since I saw Star Wars as a little kid, I've wanted a light saber. I put in on my birthday wish list for years but never got it. Every year I would hype up getting a light saber the month leading in to my birthday, and each year I got a similar response.
“Oh sweetie, maybe you should ask for something more realistic?” to me at age 6.
“Oh, I'd love to but they don't make those,” to me at age 10.
“Are you still asking for a light saber?” to me at age 22. “I thought by now you would at least change it to a bottle of liquor or something.”
But nothing else mattered. No gift at any age could ever surpass the gift of a light saber. I dream at night about having a light saber and putting on a robe and using the force to make weaker people do my bidding for me. I looked up to Darth Vader like a father, until he punked out at the end and killed the Emperor, who I looked up to like a grandfather. I figure that if I got a light saber, I would also be able to wield the force. If that was the case, I would just walk around town all day force choking people for fun. Force choke is pretty much one of the best force powers, if not the best.
So I've been tracking any kind of developments that hint at the possibility of the introduction of light sabers to our world. And then I find this UV Sanitizer. It uses UV light to kill E. Coli and stuff. It would be cooler if you could chop people's hands off, but I'll take what I can get. I'm picking up one of these; until I actually get a light saber, E. Coli and other bacteria better watch out ‘cause I've got some light killing skills to hone.
