He found them in a secret compartment.
When Roddy was in his drifting days, he stumbled upon a small town. He found some nice people there that fed him at the soup kitchen, but strangely the police bulldozed the entire area later that night. When he returned to the town the next day, he found a box of Timberland Sunglasses in a secret compartment. His life was changed the instant he put them on his face.

The world looked different through Roddy’s new sunglasses. Billboards and other kinds of advertisements now contained subliminal messages that read GO TO THE ZOO and TRY LEARNING HOW TO YO-YO.

Even scarier, Roddy found that the glasses revealed some humans not to be humans at all, but worms! He got one of his coworkers to reluctantly put on a pair of the sunglasses and when he did, his team to figure out what was happening doubled.

Through a series of adventures, the two were able to find out that worms had been secretly living amongst us and subliminally motivating us to be better people because they had a deep admiration for the human race. It was very strange.
