No one saw or heard from him again.
Life can change in an instant. For Dr. Lawrence West, that day came on the eve of his father’s birthday. An internationally renowned scientist, Lawrence was heading a new project in time travel. The team had successfully sent a loaf of banana bread back in time 10 minutes … it was delicious. Now, they were about to send something forward in time.

Everything was going according to plan until an earthquake measuring a 6.8 on the Richter scale hit the area. Not only were the controls hit by falling debris, changing the destination time from 10 minutes in the future to 100 years in the future, but Lawrence himself fell from the observation deck into the machine. Before he could even realize what was happening, he was in the future.

“Oh my God, I’m in the future!” he exclaimed.

Most notably was the absence of the research facility. In fact, the entire area was engulfed in forest and the stone courtyard on which he stood looked as if it hadn’t been cared for in years. Strangely, Lawrence saw at the center of the courtyard a statue … of himself. Upon closer inspection he noticed an inscription.

ON DECEMBER 29TH, 2011 DR. LAWRENCE WEST BECAME THE FIRST MAN TO TRAVEL THROUGH TIME. IF YOU SEE THIS MAN, PLEASE HELP HIM.

The sentiment was nice, but the environment was foreboding, throwing everything he ever knew into question.
