Wait, who said that?
Tina was deep in the throes of her new book, He’s Just Not That Into You, and loving every second of it. The book culled together a plethora of different relationship experiences that Tina could understand. It was quickly becoming her favorite book when she heard something strange.
At the beginning of July, during a spell of exceptionally hot weather …
She looked up; who had said that? The only people in the house were herself and the baby, who she had put to sleep not long ago. She didn’t really believe it, but Tina convinced herself that she was hearing things and went back to her book.
He had succeeded in avoiding the encounter with his landlady on the stairs.
Tina again looked up, starting to feel uneasy. Had she left the television on? A quick walk into the other room confirmed that she had not. Nerves began to get the best of her and she walked into the baby’s room to take him into the car and leave. When she walked into the room, Tina was surprised to see her baby awake and reading a book.
“His landlady, from whom he rented this room with a dinner and a maid,” he read aloud before stopping and looking up at his mother.
“… what are you doing?” Tina blurted out, confused.
“I’m reading Crime and Punishment, what does it look like? You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to find something suitable to read amidst the sea of Twilight, Harry Potter and Dan Brown books. Was this assigned to you in high school or something? I can’t imagine you actually read it.”
Tina could only stare back at her son, who she did not know could talk, let alone read.
“But,” she said finally. “I heard someone talking in the other room.”
“That’s me you heard through the Motorola MBP20 Digital Video Baby Monitor you set up.”
Again, Tina could do nothing but stare.
“Don’t you have some daytime television to watch? I kind of want to get back to my book,” he asked, turning his attention back to his read.
