The impossible became the possible.
We embarked early in the morning on our heroic journey. I took a deep breath with both my hands on the steering wheel of the car and pushed my foot down on the accelerator; turning back was no longer an option. Gradually, the tree in front of my apartment building became a tinier and tinier dot in the rear view mirror.
My travelling companion was Andu, winner of the 2011 Taco Bell Smelliest Person of the Year Award. I didn’t want to be in the car with her, the smell was more horrendous than you could ever imagine, but I couldn’t complete my journey alone. I ruminated over my inability to find a better travelling partner and by the time we reached the McDonald’s for breakfast I was significantly more depressed.
Inside, bright promotional posters clued us in to the reemergence of Monopoly. We placed our orders and we didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before Andu had peeled off her game pieces. Her first revealed the Park Place property.
“Ooh, that’s the big one!” she said as she peeled the second piece. “Free medium fries! We’re going back later!”
I shook my head as we idled in heavy traffic, wondering what kind of demon possessed me to prompt my sitting next to this hideous being. Of course, Andu always had to get her way; we were going back to McDonald’s.
On the second trip, somewhere off I-78 in Pennsylvania, I got a beverage with game pieces on them. Peeling one of them back, I recoiled incredulously.
“This is Boardwalk,” I said blankly.
The truth took a few seconds to sink in, but the fact that we were about to be millionaires caused us to jump up and wave our arms around, pointing and jeering at all the other patrons in the McDonald’s. Life wasn’t going to be so bad after all, I thought.
When we finally arrived at our destination, we met up with the Lou. He was sitting down with his MID 8” Google Android Tablet PC when we approached him.
“We just won a million dollars at McDonald’s!” we both yelled. The Lou looked up from his touchscreen Android tablet and we told him the story.
“So…you guys went to McDonald’s twice in one day?”
