I have this problem, but it only happens every once in a while. One second I'll be perfectly normal and no one will suspect that anything is wrong, but then the next I turn in a rabid beast foaming at the mouth. I'll start barking and howling and biting people. It's kind of like being a werewolf except I don't actually turn into a wolf and instead of happening during a full moon it happens every time I hear Pachelbel's Canon in D.

I still remember the first time I ever heard that song, at my cousin's high school graduation. What was supposed to be a nice ceremony accompanied by a song with a boring cello line turned into a chaotic fiasco with me foaming and biting people. Some people thought I had rabies. Other people thought I had been possessed by the devil. One person thought it was kind of funny, but she didn't tell me that until years later.

….Yeah, so I don't really know what to do about it. Doctors don't have a clue what's going on with me and although I come into contact with the song rather infrequently, it's really embarrassing when I do. Once it happened when I was at a fancy dinner about to propose to my ex-girlfriend. Once it happened during a job interview. I can never go to anyone's graduation out of fear that the song will play. Just think about that, you know? Imagine if you had to deal with that kind of change all the time.

“I think I can understand,” my psychiatrist said, “I'm chewing on this Stride Shift Flavor Changing Gum. Just when I get that it's citrus flavored it turns into mint.”
